A world shaped around you.

Everyone has strengths, hopes and something to contribute. We want to help people find support and opportunities that fit their lives — not expect people to fit systems that were never designed around them.

Different people. Different paths. Equal worth.
Support should fit the person — not the other way round.
Discover our vision
Our vision

Everyone deserves a place where they belong.

The Piece That Fits aims to create more inclusive routes into employment, support and participation for people affected by disability, long-term illness, stroke, mental health difficulties and other barriers. We start by listening, recognising strengths and understanding what matters to each person.

Person first

Understand each person's strengths, ambitions and support needs.

Room to rebuild

Explore confidence, wellbeing, rehabilitation and meaningful activity at an individual pace.

Belonging at work

Work with employers to make roles and workplaces more accessible and inclusive.

What we do

Support that looks at the whole picture.

We want to connect people, employers and support providers, while recognising that everyone's circumstances and goals are different.

Job carving

Identify a person's strengths and explore how a role can be shaped around tasks a business needs doing.

Rehabilitation connections

Help people navigate options and connect with appropriate rehabilitation, wellbeing and community providers.

Transport and access

Address practical barriers that can make appointments, activities and opportunities difficult to reach.

Opportunities where people are

Explore employability and meaningful group activities in residential and day-service settings.

Listening and choice

Work alongside people, not make assumptions about what they need or what they can achieve.

North East ambition

Based in County Durham, with an ambition to build partnerships across the wider North East.

These are the project's aims and developing plans. Specific services, funding and support will depend on partnerships, resources and individual circumstances.

For businesses and employers

Make work fit more people.

Not every person fits a standard job description — and not every job needs to stay exactly as it is. Job carving looks at the tasks a business needs done and explores how they could be brought together into a suitable role that matches someone's strengths.

We aim to work with employers on role design, reasonable adjustments, accessible workplaces and ongoing support.

Talk to us about working together

How job carving can work

  1. Listen to the person's strengths and goals.
  2. Understand the employer's needs and tasks.
  3. Explore a role and reasonable adjustments.
  4. Agree support and review how it is working.

How we make a difference

Changing the shape of opportunity.

We want to bring people, employers, support providers and communities together. By recognising strengths, reducing barriers and shaping opportunities around individuals, The Piece That Fits aims to make participation and meaningful work more achievable.

For individuals

More choice, confidence, connection and routes towards meaningful activity or employment.

For employers

Practical help to explore inclusive roles, adjustments and untapped talent.

For communities

Stronger partnerships and more accessible opportunities for people who are often overlooked.
